Every morning during calendar time we will complete our calendar together at our carpet. We will fill in the date, number of days in school, tally marks that correspond to the date, fill in a weather graph, and check birthdays.
Eventually the students and I will complete the calendar using our calendar folders also.
Calendar folders are a great way to monitor the progress children make. The calendar routine is followed daily right after the children have had breakfast. The calendar folders gives me quick feedback about what my students are learning and allows me to show parents the progress children are making.

Calendar folder contents:

A traceable number chart that the students will fill out for the remaining school year as we count the number of days they have been in school.

A blank calendar for each month. At the beginning of each month the students will have the opportunity to draw a picture corresponding to that month. Then each day after they will fill in the dates.

A tally chart for the students to record the date using tally marks. The amount of tally marks will correspond to the current date.
A birthday graph that we will create the first days of school so we will be prepared for each child's birthday.

A weather graph for the students to keep track of the weather.
